Character and Style
When you reach Coconut Lagoon Resort, you instantly know why
Condé Nast Traveller rated it amongst the 25 best getaways
in the world. It quaintly lies in a hammock on the Vembanad
lake shore, nestled undauntedly by the tall palms and coconut
trees. Its unique timber and tile architecture follows from
the traditional Thachu Shasthra. The reception building is
a luxuriant Nalukattu that features four-cornered open-roof
courtyard within the basic structure.
The resort offers three types of accommodations: Heritage
Bungalows, Heritage Mansions and Pool Villas. Each individual
dwelling is built from traditional wooden house of Kerala,
called the " Tharawads ". All the accommodations
are air-conditioned and have telephones, hot and cold water
and all the comforts of a modern resort. However, the rooms
do not have television to keep you and your mind body and
soul away from any city connection.
Facilities
Every accommodation has private open-roofed bathrooms. Therefore,
you can enjoy a relaxing shower under the sky, yet in complete
privacy. The resort has a swimming pool, Ayurveda center,
recreation center and regular doctors on call.
Activities
Besides the farm visits, fishing, swimming, yoga, meditation
and the staple Kerala 'Rice boat' cruises, the resort organizes
several leisure activities such as Sunset cruises, Backwater
cruises and the Bird Sanctuary visits. Visit to the Bird Sanctuary
is a direct insight into the ravishing world of Kanavar River
where you can view Darters, Bitterns, Brahminy kites, Marsh
Harriers, Teals, and several varieties of Herons roost.
The Ayuervedic Center at the resort is one of the finest
natural healing spas. You can revitalize your senses with
the numerous Ayurvedic therapies, messages and oil baths.
Drinks and Dining
The restaurant at Coconut Lagoon Resort is housed in an impressive
Ettukettu that features two atrium-like courtyards with expansive
tile roof that is supported by a number of slim columns. It
serves authentic Kerala cuisine and also finds mention in
Arundhati Roy's Booker-Prize winning best-seller, "The
God of Small Things." The restaurant is the oldest structure
at Coconut Lagoon. You can spend a lazy evening, relaxing
at the Theyam Bar.
